What is Body Stress Release

Causes of body stress

Mechanical Stress

This could be something sudden and major, such as whiplash from a car accident, or a bad fall, or it could be accumulative stress such as continuous bad posture i.e. sitting hunched over whilst working, sitting slumped forward, incorrect lifting, and repetitive inappropriate exercises. These could cause possible cramps, weak knees, and weak bladder, and sciatica, stiffness, feeling bloated and constipated.

Chemical Stress

Harmful chemicals may be consumed, inhaled, or even absorbed thru skin contact. Sources can include pollutants in the air, insecticides, certain food additives/preservatives and even ingredients in creams, lotions and perfumes. Typical symptoms may include severe headaches or migraines, nausea and tension in the neck and shoulders, even dizziness.

Mental and Emotional Stress

Today we are all subject to an array of emotional stress factors such as financial worries, disintegrating personal relationships, workplace conflict and deadlines, depression, loss of loved ones, hate, fear, anxiety and or depression.
These can manifest as tightened shoulders, stiff neck, grinding teeth, all part of the defensive posture to armour us against the onslaught of life’s stresses.

Effects of body stress

When the body is no longer capable of adapting to the stresses it is subjected to, it reaches overload and the body goes into protective mode, using the muscles to splint the area and the tension becomes “locked” into the physical structure. Over a period of times, several layers of muscles will become affected, like the layers in an onion.

Body stress may be experienced as:

Pain

This is the most common reason people come for BSR, as we all want to be free of pain. As body stress compresses the nerves, the result is often – pain.

  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Stiffness With restricted movement and loss of flexibility,
  • Distorted posture
  • Joint degeneration
  • Constant tiredness
  • Psychological effects
  • Disturbed function
  • Infertility,
    Bladder infections
  • Indigestion, constipation or diarrhea and
  • Other disturbed bodily functions.

However, it is quite possible that the individual may not be aware of the body stress, due to the compression of spinal nerves and decreased sensation(numbness) in areas. It may be accepted as normal to have a less than 100% sense of well-being, and factors such as the weather or age can be blamed.

When tension is locked into the body, it causes disruption of the energy flow and as the situation progresses; the body goes into a downward spiral of degeneration, and moves away from optimum health.

It is possible that people try to deal with the stress overload in further destructive ways such as overeating, excessive drinking, over-exercising or using drugs – actually introducing further stress and compounding the problems.

BSR Consultation

Body Stress Release is carried out in a professional setting in a private consulting room.

The practitioner will give a brief explanation of how BSR works, to dispel any misconceptions and show that the technique does not involve anything mysterious or mystical.

While remaining fully clothed, the client will lie face down and be lowered on a specially designed BSR couch, making it comfortable and easy for people who may have difficulty climbing onto a raised surface.

The practitioner will perform a series of light pressure tests, using the body as a biofeedback mechanism, to assess the exact location and direction of body stress.

The testing process does not require any action from the client. The practitioner is trained specifically to monitor the body’s neuromuscular response to the stress tests.

The practitioner will then release the body stress, using their hands, with a light but definite pressure, thereby restoring the two-way communication between the brain and the affected area.

In BSR we realize “more is not better” – the application of a stimulus along a line of stress does not need to be forceful, but simply accurate. BSR is light enough to never override the body’s natural protective resistance.

After the releases, the practitioner will explain the relevance of stressed areas, for example, a person with numb or tingling hands can see the connection from the painful lower neck to the hands.

Depending on the findings, the practitioner may give the client some guidance on how to maximize the benefit of the BSR sessions and avoid recurrence of body stress.

Note – BSR is not a diagnosis or treatment of any condition or disease. It is merely concerned with locating and releasing stored tension, so that the body is assisted in its in-built capacity to heal and maintain itself.
